The Picton Business Improvement Association, the Municipality’s Community Development Department and Prince Edward County businesses, have announced an exciting marketing campaign designed to promote shopping locally. The campaign, “Keep it in the County”, arrives right in time for the Christmas season, through a partnership with the Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Community Futures Development Corporation (PELA CFDC).
Intended to highlight local gift ideas while educating the local consumer on the importance of shopping locally; the campaign will run from the end of November thru until Christmas. For a subsidized fee, local businesses will be featured in print advertising, on-air at 99.3 County FM, through Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest), on the web and on a YouTube video being produced in-kind by Crowe Productions Inc..
When asked about his involvement in the campaign, Trevor Crowe explains that “his team is proud to offer their services to such a great initiative”. “As tempting as it is to go to the mall or large box stores to do your’ shopping all at once, the County has an amazing array of truly unique shopping experiences that easily trump the chaos of the mall. This campaign is about reminding County residence of the importance of choosing to shop locally. It often just takes a simple reminder to ‘keep it in the county’. I think by using the mixed media to promote the message, we are reaching all ages while making it accessible for locals to get behind the initiative”, says Crowe.
Elements of the campaign are being distributed to business associations, the PEC Chamber of Tourism and Commerce and local businesses as resources for use. Local businesses are encouraged to participate in the campaign, use the logo and spread the message to “Keep it in the County” this holiday season.
In addition to the media portion of the campaign, there will also be a Facebook contest where consumers are asked to take “selfies” in local businesses holding an item they have on their wish list. Facebook users will post these images, creating a viral County Christmas wish list. Users who post local “selfies” and share will be entered in a draw to win Gift Certificates to shop locally.
The “Keep it in the County” shop local initiative is one of the first of a series of initiatives being developed through similar partnerships between the business community, The County and The Chamber of Tourism and Commerce.
“Our Department is proud to be working with the Picton BIA to encourage residents to shop locally this season and year round”, says director, Neil Carbone. “Dollars spent in the County get circulated in the County, providing a benefit to everyone and helping sustain our economy.”
