Picton businesses have rallied together this season to ‘Pay it Forward’ in Prince Edward County with a ‘Deals in December’ initiative. Over 25 business members under the Business Improvement Association (BIA) joined the 2015 program to offer deals with the hope of enticing shoppers to ‘keep it in the County’ and shop locally for Christmas. Although the goal of the program is to spread the shop local message, the businesses were also keen to pay back to their community for shopping at their individual establishments. Businesses downtown, Picton, are often asked to sponsor local sports team; donate to a fundraiser for a local family in need; give to assist local charities and not-for-profit organizations. Many donate thousands of dollars to such requests. It is these same businesses who are offering the Deals in December program – showing shoppers first that they appreciate your business and second that you can get deals in your local community without having to shop online or at big box stores. In addition to receiving a deal you are supporting the local shop, the staff employed in that shop, the families of those employees and the local economy. By shopping in your local community you don’t have to pay for the gas to travel outside of PEC, you don’t have to stand in a line up, you don’t have to stress about the madness of the malls, and you will always receive friendly service! There are only a few weeks left to ‘Keep it in the County’ – so what are you waiting for, shop proud, shop local, shop PEC today!
